Marking Period 3
Candy Bouquets - Students complete a survey of likes and dislikes related to candy, beverages, TV shows, movies, sport, etc. and swap with anonymously with another student. They are then challenged to design an edible bouquet for that person based on the information on the survey. Students then swap their bouquets. I had Mr. Cuttrell fill out the survey so I could do a sample. From his survey, I focused on the fact that he likes hunting, elks, root beer anything, Dr. Pepper, and tootsie rolls. I made a base out of cardboard and covered it to look like camouflage. I used orange cellophane and ribbon because hunters wear orange in the woods. I glued the tootsie rolls and rootbeer barrels to bamboo skewers to look like cat nine tails and other brush. In the center I put four bottles of the base. I used pipe cleaners to craft elk antlers and attached them to two of the soda bottles. Throughout the bouquet are scattered hearts in camouflage colors. I drew a characiture of an elk with a camouflage background and attached a heart for the message space. The message read, "John, I didn't have to hunt all over to find a great colleague and friend. Happy V-Day, Wendy
Art Auction Submission - Students must complete three different visual and performing arts projects. The first one entails students finding an inspiring artist and art style to mimic. They must create an original piece of 2D art with a marine theme. The art work will be donated to the class and auctioned off as a fund raiser in the spring.
Water/Contaminants/Filtration - This unit of study puts students in motion racing for knowledge about water, contaminants found in water and ways to filter dirty water. Students will learn how to create team reports, team slide shows, a public service announcement, and team blogs. Each team will design a water filtration system. For each activity, students will switch teams.
